POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Two Rivers YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position is responsible for program operations at the Bass Street YMCA-Sylvan Boathouse.


Sylvan Boathouse is home to the internationally renowned Y Quad Cities Junior Rowing program. Developed under past direction of 5-time US Rowing Junior Coach of the Year, YMCA volunteer and former Olympian, Dr. Peter Sharis, Y Quad Cities Rowing continues to win Midwest and National Championships while regularly sending rowers off to the US Juniors Team to row internationally. The Head Rowing Coach is responsible for overseeing and building the crew team, nurturing parent and volunteer engagement in the program, coordinating participation in regattas, and directly overseeing equipment and facility operations at the Bass Street YMCA and Sylvan Boathouse. https://tworiversymca.org/rowing

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.

  2. Serves as the Head Rowing Coach and is responsible for teaching proper rowing technique, leading rowing practices, workout schedule and conditioning, race entries, parent meetings and volunteers.

  3. Drives truck with trailer of boats and equipment to regattas during spring, summer, and fall rowing seasons.

  4. Recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops them for success.

  5. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.

  6. Manages the program, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in program; securing and scheduling the needed facilities; and creating and scheduling the classes, activities or events.

  7. Ensures a clean safe environment for all participants and equipment inside and outside facility, program areas and during travel. This may include but is not limited to practicing water safety on and off the water, appropriate equipment and building maintenance, storage and transportation, and appropriate staffing.

  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsible for supervising program participants, and be a primary responder in the event of an emergency. Responsible for the hiring, onboarding, training, reviewing, rewarding, disciplining and supervision of program staff.
